‘Woman‘ – selected with 17 other Belgian artists in an international group exhibition – Uitstalling Art Gallery Genk Belgium – MAD Gallery Poznan, Poland

In my mind’s eye I keep seeing a sixties bungalow. The villa looks deserted, sweltering heat caressing unrequited desires. In the distance, a lawnmower snorts.
The scene breathes decadence, but of the better kind. Behind the large, high windows, I see a woman standing. She stares out and sips from a cocktail glass. The loneliness and tristesse are overwhelming.
In the garden that neglected tennis court, the deep red color of the gravel goes perfectly with the hard white of the walls, which reflect the summer sun like Bolivian salt flats. The net hangs limply, the tall referee’s chair watches lonely, weeds slowly but surely proliferate.

That woman behind glass, that silhouette, advancing shadowily, intrigues me. Her outline slender, her gait elegant, her dress from the more expensive segment.
In my imagination, the rooms are too spacious, the hallways infinite and the collection of art priceless. The sound of a vinyl record on its end buzzes through the room, the monotonous murmur filling the void. A house in which the architect prioritized communicating spaces rather than doors making solitude seem visualized and silence feel crushing. The wooden walls of sapped ebony exude boredom.
Outside, the streets are deserted, the other houses seem to dissolve among the greenery. At night, the woman sleeps with her tilt-up window open, the faint light of the street lights caressing her skin. Beside her bed lies a station novel about a vacation love, her cocktail glass is rolled under bed, smartphone within reach, the world out of reach.

In her dream, everything will be different tomorrow.
